Conservation Historical Society Projects to be Featured at Oklahoma History Symposium

Pictured is Larry Caldwell who will be part of a panel discussion on the OCHS oral history and photo digitization projects during the annual meeting of the Oklahoma Historical Society in Oklahoma City on April 22, 2023.

We are excited to announce that two of our projects will be featured at the Oklahoma Historical Society’s History Symposium on April 22nd at the History Center in Oklahoma City.  The symposium “Perspectives in History” is a one day event offering scholars, historians, authors, and museum professionals the opportunity to share their work with history enthusiasts.  OCHS Board Member, Larry Caldwell, will be participating in a session titled “Collaborating to Preserve Oklahoma’s Conservation History.”  Tanya Finchum, Oral History Librarian at OSU and Chad Williams, Research Division Director at the Oklahoma Historical Society will be participating in the session as well.  Ms. Finchum has been responsible for conducting 50 oral histories of Oklahoma conservationists.  These oral histories are archived in the Oklahoma Conservation Heritage Collection on the OSU Library website.  Mr. Williams has led the project to digitize black and white conservation photos from around the state and create the Oklahoma Conservation History Photo Collection on the Gateway to Oklahoma History website.  There are now 12,000 photos in the collection with another 8,000 photos being processed.

The symposium is free and open to the public, but the Oklahoma Historical Society asks that attendees register online at: www.okhistory.org/symposium.
