Championing Conservation, One Story at a Time
To honor the legacy of Oklahoma conservationists, OCHS seeks to collect, preserve, and share their stories. We hope that by doing so, we can inspire future generations to be good stewards of our state’s natural resources.
OCHS initiatives are dedicated to honoring and preserving the legacy of Oklahoma conservationists, ensuring their valuable contributions are remembered by future generations.
Oral History
Through a partnership with Oklahoma State University’s Oral History Research Program, OCHS has recorded interviews with 54 Oklahoma conservationists, with more planned for the future. Each oral history includes a video and a text transcript. They are all available to the public online through the OSU library website.
Photographs
Pictures are worth a thousand words, and the photos collected by OCHS help the stories of Oklahoma conservationists come alive. In partnership with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), conservation districts, and the Oklahoma Historical Society (OHS), OCHS located, digitized, and made publicly available these important photographic records. The photos are available for public viewing on The Gateway to Oklahoma History website.
Continuing Education
OCHS believes that understanding our state’s conservation history is crucial for today’s conservationists. By learning from the successes and challenges of the past, today’s conservation professionals can gain valuable insights for solving current and future conservation problems.
To support their growth, OCHS provides a range of resources for continuing education, including live training events led by OCHS experts, public history exhibits, and digital resources. Through these initiatives, conservation professionals can deepen their knowledge, sharpen their skills, and connect with a community of like-minded individuals committed to protecting Oklahoma's natural resources.
